This is my photography blog. Here I will be posting my comments on some of my work, my thoughts and whatever else comes to mind. Please comment. I love comments.

Curling + Broken Feet + Cuban Health Care = My Weekend
They really were on a path to glory, or so everyone thought. It was quite exciting to watch this rink develop into something incredible. But then it happened.
Their success transformed them into an arrogance that made my stomach churn. It felt like there was a couple of pounds of butter in there. Their arrogance has caught up
with them, and lately, they have not done much at the national level. No Briar titles. No real titles to speak of. Yet, this weekend, when they walked onto the ice at the Canadian Grand Slam quarter Finals to face the Shawn Adams rink from Nova-Scotia, they were apparently convinced of an easy win. HA! Once the score reached 10-6, for
Nova-Scotia, their cock-sure attitude transformed into a bunch of sad little puppies. The crowd roared with pleasure as Ferbey conceded the game to Adams. HA HA HA HA.
On Sunday I spent the afternoon fixing Judy's computer with my friend Nick. Poor Judy with her broken foot up in the air. We exchanged broken foot stories. Since we both have the remarkable distinction of breaking our right foot on public transit. However, she did her stunt in London, England. But Judy has more elegance that way. If she were to break her foot, it would have to be in England. A much more dignified place to be. And from what she says, they put our medical system to shame. Can't say I'm surprised. Cuba has better health care than we do if you believe Michael Moore.
Yup, According to Michael Moore, Cuba is the Shangrila of health care. Free, perfect health care. When I first saw the documentary "Sicko", I was initially shocked by this, and a little pissed that Cuba had such great health care, but then, when you think about it a minute, I bet if I was a big world known director, showed up in CUBA with a bunch of Sick Americans (I love the double-entendre in that one) with camera crew in tow, I would get the red carpet treatment as well. I am sure my friend Pedro would have lots to say about that.
Pedro immigrated to Montreal a few years ago. I haven't seen him in a while, but I am sure he is doing fine. Another immigrant success story. I am happy he made a place for himself in Montreal. I would be curious to see what he would say about "Sicko"!
So, a while back I told you about the Commercial Photography program at Dawson College; just over a couple of weeks ago they phoned me to schedule my admissions interview. I have to hold my breath to find out if I get in or not. I should have an answer in 2 weeks!!!! OK I can't hold my breath that long. But I am trying.

LunchBreak_3244
Back to work tomorrow. I'm back in my apartment in Montreal. My bags are still 100% packed. I have not even unzipped my carry on luggage yet. Its like if I wait, it somehow prolongs the vacation. As if all the stress of my daily grind would run rush out of the luggage as soon as I open it.
I did have a wonderful time in Vancouver, I will most certainly go back. I did not do anything really noteworthy while I was there, but I did manage to do nothing. That was pretty sweet. I don't often get to do nothing. While doing nothing, I thought about my work-life balance. I thought about how stressed out I am all the time how that affects my personality and my health on a daily basis.
With each passing day in Vancouver, I was using less and and less of my Asthma medication, to the point where I have not taken any in over 24 hours. That has not happened in a long time. They say stress is one of the major triggers.
I have some decisions to make with regards to work. I do not feel I can keep this pace up. Although its been great for my career over the past (almost) three years, I think its time to put the brakes on. I don't want to look back at my life in 33 years and realize I spent most of it at the office or stressing out over data problems.
It was my birthday yesterday. A very quite affair. I prefer it that way anyway. Got some nice wishes from people who matter the most. Thirty-Three years old. WOW.

Vancouver
Vancouver the city, not that exciting. Nothing really is going on here that is not going on anywhere else. It is what you can see and do AROUND vancouver that makes it so special.
I have been here since Saturday. I am enjoying every minute of it. The weather has been just fantastic. I have been soaking up the sun, walking around, taking massive amounts of photos. To the point where I don't have feet anymore, I have 2 giant blisters instead. I call the left blister Moe and the right one Curly.
I decided to give Moe and Curly a rest today. So I am taking it easy at Waves on Main Street and East Broadway St. This was my favorite coffee spot when I first came here in 2006, and I still love it. A close second though, is the newly discovered "Verra's Burger, Where you can't beat verra's meat!" This beeing the Lesbian Vegetarian Granola Munching capital of the world, Verra's also has a vegetarian menue, and it kicks ass. And with a slogan like that, I had to go in!
The amount of drug addicted passed out bums on the streets of Vancouver is STAGGERING. I can not tell you how many times I was witness to Police / Ambulance interventions to help people who look worse off than some of the stuff you see on TV. Its a little disheartning that this is going on in my country. Hardly seems fair.
Anyway... I'm about to settle into an afternoon of playing World Of Warcraft... so I will bring this to a close.

Grasshoper...
Today, I am that ant. I have not had 1 day of vacation this year, and its starting to takes its toll on my morale. I'm feeling a little coocoo-bananas these days. I really need a break.
Next week the work gods have graciously granted me 1 week off. Wow. Wow indeed. Since thats what I will be goind, WOWing.
Ok, so now you think I'm totally coocoo because Wowing isn't a word, much less a verb in the present continuous tense. Oh, but you are wrong... it is. At least for me and some of my colleagues it is. Let me explain.
WoW is short for World Of Warcarft. Or, like my little brother Martin calls it, World of WarCRACK. This is a massively multiplayer online role playing game, or MMORPG for short. And I must admit, Martin is wise beyond his years. This game is sooooo much fun. I cannot believe it took me 4 years to find out this thing even existed. I was still playing Diablo when I found out about WoW. Well, I don't play Diablo anymore.
WoW is a product of Blizzard, the makers of Diablo. They took all the best elements from Diablo and Warcraft and made World Of Warcraft. The best 19.99$ I ever paid. Seriously. I can't stop playing. Well, I can, but I must admit, the time I spend AFK (Away from keyboard) wears heavily on me. But I think thats ok, since I have spent most of the summer as the ant in the fable, during my vacation, I will become the grasshoper and /dance. Three more sleeps!

Monday Mornings 2679
Thankfully, it looks like I am finally able to breath at work. The have hired more worker bees, and I actualy have time for lunch now, and I get to go home at a decent hour. Imagine that!
I started having fun at work again. I mean enjoying my work day. But that should last until the end of this quarter. End of quarters are always a bit rough, but I think we have seen the worst of it.
On an even happier note, I managed to find some time to take some pictures over the weekend at Atwater Market. It was nice to be out shooting again.

Chili Wins 4-0
I was surprised at the atmosphere. I was clear to me at that point why Soccer (or football) is so popular, and why it is called the World's Game. I think we have a lot to learn in North-America. I am so happy at the chance to experience this. If the World Cup ever comes to Canada, I will have to make sure I get a ticket.

Montreal International Fireworks Competition: China
Fireworks : China
This evening, China was showing us what they can do over there. They did a really great job. Impressive all the way through. Music was awesome. Great colours, impressive display overall. I think we might have found our winner for this year!

This is your life: click away.
Speaking of communication, apparently I suck at it. This came to me as a tremendous surprise since I am usually considered an above average communicator by most people who know me. I guess when people don't hear what they want to hear its easier to lash out than to actually accept what they are told.
I am making a decision. From this day forward, I am no longer going to be anybody's bitch. I am done bending over backwards to make others happy. This is who I am. If you don't like it, don't make it my problem. I am tired of making excuses for myself. No more. This is me, like it or not, I DON'T CARE.
I am not getting any younger. Maybe I am having an early mid life crisis, I do not really know, but I don't care. I am going to clean some aspects of my life, starting TODAY.
This job of mine, its got to go. I have been breaking my balls, typing away, slaving for a bunch of corporate block head shareholders for nothing. I don't care if I have to live in a cardboard box for the next 60 years of my life, it will be better than pretending to be happy in an office where politics and screwing your colleagues over is de rigueur!
NO MORE.
I had to stop myself 1 hour ago from packing my cubicle and just walking out. So fed up. SO SO fed up.
You know, I have not been to the pool since last October because of this stupid job? How the hell can I get to the pool if I am working 7 days a week averaging 10 to 12 hour days? Whats the point? I am certainly not getting a salary increase or a promotion. I should just quit right now. And I think this is the single most complaint about the job. I have no personal life. NONE. This stops NOW.
I am thinking of doing some cleaning up in my personal life. There are a few negative sources that I must evacuate from my environment. Sources that are polluting my energy field with negativity, constant criticism whithout ever providing support OR being constructive. You people know who you are. The whiners, bugging me for something or other. help with this, help me with that. You know, the "Can You" people. "Can you" people are the worst. Because every sentence they utter begins with those two words. Well, here is my answer : NO I CAN'T. And I am not going to feel bad about it this time. It is going to be about me today.
This is the begining of the rest of my life, and its only going to be good from now on. My new resolutions :
- i will not work more than 40 hours a week.
- I will spend more time with my real friends. And if you are asking yourself if you are my real friend, you are probably should answer that questions with a NO, because if you were, you would know it.
- I will spend more time at the pool, at least 3 hours a week.
- I will scheule time for photography everyday.
- I will submit my work for review
- I will find another job.
- I will no longer entertain negative people.

I did see an improvement this time. I had a secret weapon, a remote shutter release. Its incredible the difference this makes on long exposure. I bought a simple remote on eBay for 10$ and it was money very well spent.

Traditions Acadiennes...
That would be my first Acadian Tradition to discuss. We love speaking English. We really do. We bask in the fact that we understand what goes on EVERYWHERE IN this country. And that we will never fully understand why seperatists in Québec are so upset. We got a much crappier deal than they did. But in Acadian fashion, we found a way to accept English reality of Canada and melt it with our Acadian one. Its makes us Canadian. Which I am first and foremost.
That openess translated to everything we did on a daily basis. There was a rule in our house. Never ever refuse someone over for diner. Therefore there should always be enough food to go around if someone showed up, and there had to be enough for them to have seconds, if they so wanted. My friends would love to come over for spaghetti. It was a spahetti festival, with meatballs, parmsean cheese, hot spices, and mushrooms. We knew, certain mothers were dying for the recipe. They never got it.
If you were lucky enough to be at the Robichaud table, you would have witnessed a dining ceremony unlike any other. Meal time was a serious affaire. No T.V. in the dinning room. An affaire so important, it got its own room. The oldest sitting opposit of the Father at the head of the table. The mother with the two youngest, the the two other boys on the opposite side of the mother. Guest would sit next to the family member whom had invited them. Sometimes there would be vary many.
Converstation was manditory. No subject was too bold or taboo for the table, no matter how uncomfotable our poor dad felt. My mother would haved discused the pros and cons of oral sex if we had asked. We didn`t, we were scared she might actually take a banana and saran wrap out of the kitchen.
The best meal time, was when there was brocoli cheese casserole on the menu. We would litteray fight over brocoli. But not just brocoli, turnips! Liver! We would eat it really quickly to get another serving. It was just that good.

Watering Children 0410
This morning, I drove to Dawson College, parked my car on de Maisonneuve street, walked into the college through the main entrance, marched straight forward about 150 meters, turned right, then walked another 50 meters or so, and inserted my application into the Registrar's mail box. There was something eerie about the whole process. First of all, it was about 7:45 am, so there was no one around. Empty halls. Echoing footsteps. Then the swoosh of the the letter sliding in the mail slot and sudden thump as it hit the bottom of the empty mail box, followed by a long sigh of relief. And my grimace turned to a wide grin. I knew I had done something good for myself, my hapiness and my future: my application to Dawson College's Commercial Photography Program for the fall term is complete and submitted to the powers at be.
Wow. I felt so happy after that. But that lasted about 10 seconds. I then realised my faith rested in the hands of academia. So, if you are christian, light a candle say a prayer in my honour. For the less christian, take out your prayer matts, put on your yamachas, or even burn insents or just plain cross your fingers, beacause I really REALLY want this.
So... There is a picture to talk about today as well. I watched these kids play in the water at Parc Jean-Drapeau for a good 10 minutes. They were having such a great time. I felt like joining in and running through the fountains myself, but that would have been weird. We had a great day with Diane, Gilles, Marie and Camille. I had not realised just how nice of a place it is. Filled with photo ops. I will be returning, for sure!!

A day on Mount Royal 0128
We had diner at Frites Alors on St-Laurent Bld and then headed on to Mount Royal to take in a stroll and a nice view of the city. A must for any tourist, really.
At beaver lake I spotted this man sitting by himself, and thanks to my telephoto lens, manage to get this great shot without getting to close. I can't help but wonder: "What is he thinking?"

International Fireworks Competition
I have been waiting for the fireworks competition with bated breath. Yes I have. Not because I find fireworks particularly interesting. They are.
Mostly, I have been filled with anticipation because of the technical challenge that it would present from the perspective of my DSLR. Well, I'm not too impressed with the results. OK OK, so its my first kick at the can, and these photos ended up being more technical than your usual night photography.
I need to get my hands on a remote shutter release. However, I did manage to take a few pictures that are worth sharing, so feel free to click on the image on check out the flickr page... I promise i will do better next week. Thank god this competition runs until the end of July!

Naked Bike Ride
Yesturday, while sipping my coffee on a balcony in the every so trendy Plateau, our view was assaulted by a bunch of NAKED cyclist.. This is why you should never leave home without your camera: you never know what you will see! They went by so fast, it was hard to get a decent shot, and the lighting was only good on the back side (ha!) You don't miss much from the front, trust me.
People back home always ask me if I will ever move back to the Maritimes. Just take one look at this photo. The answer is no. I wonder what the reaction would be in Cap-Pelé if a couple hundred of us decided to ride through main street naked on our bikes.
They are planning on making this bike ride an annual thing. Next year, I will scope out a better location and plan my photo session better. hehe.

Fontaine - Old Montreal
Good lord. Work is a little crazy, so I have not really had time to work on my photos. I have a couple thousand photos that I need to weed through and select some stuff for the blog and flickr. But this photo I took to fill the requirements of my photography class.
I am pretty happy with it. But I am always suprised by what actually catches the professor's eye. This one, is probably one of the photos he liked the most out of all the ones I have submitted. And truth be told, I almost did not submit this photo, because I did not like it that much.
But it got such a warm reception by the class and the teacher, that now, I kinda like it. LOL. I think I am going to rework it in photoshop, I have some ideas to make it even better.

Demain : Sarah!
De plus, le blogue est de retour. Alors demeurez à notre antenne.

Remember how I was getting all happy about posting pictures. Well it got worse. I bought a new camera: Canon EOS Rebel XTi and this baby has 10 megapixels of creative power.
I know the image I am posting today seems small... Its all an illusion. Click on it, and make sure to check out the different file sizes in the "All Sizes" option of the photo's flickr page. Trust me, very pretty.
Also, dont forget, you can always see lots of my stuff on my flickr page.

My Car
Many of you have requested that I post a picture of my car, its about time, considering that I bought it in November. So, here it is. I present you my "Cocotte".
She is a lovely Mazda Protégé 2002 LX 2.0 with currently 83 500km. I have managed to put 6000km since November. Not too shabby. My mother would be proud.
I know I had sworn I would never own a vehicle, but living downtown and working in Kirkland for the past 2 years has made it necessary. I used to waste 3 hours a day to get to work on public transit. But with the car, I can do it all in less than 1/2 that time.
So now, I can sleep until 7:`15 in the morning, instead of waking up at 6:30. BIG BIG difference. And I will not talk about the freedom that owning a car has brought. OH MY GOD
But I have not completely abandoned my environmental side. I have started carpooling. Something that nobody at work ever considered.
I am also now partaking in activities that make my hair stand on end : oil changes, tire changes, visits to the garage, and oh good lord, I need to put windshield washer fluid in the car this week, and I have no idea where it goes. I`m so gay, its scary.

Poinsettia
the past few days. Actually, I'm not even Sorry I posted so late, but I have been busy beyond beliefwriting this blog from my computer, I'm actually at James's place watching a movie with him and eddy. We are watching Bring It On . If you have not seen this movie, i strongly suggest it. I have seen it about 50 times and i know almost all the dialogue by heart. It rules. its almost as good as Legally Blonde.
So yeah, curling is in full swing, my teams won 3 in a row, so tomorrow night I'm hopping we can pull the 4th one in a row. Go Team Robichaud! I'm playing in two leagues this year, Montreal West Curling Club and at the Royal Montreal Curling Club.
Another exciting thing is that I am finally starting my MBA, in 11 days. Woo hooooo! The school sent me some prep material, so I already have tons of reading to do. Oh and did I mention that it's crunch time at work.
All of this is pretty awesome. I feel alive.

Dominoes
I love dominoes. I really do. I love the colors, I love the sound they make when you shuffle them around and I love all the things you can do with dominoes. But most of all, I love the memories they bring back.
When I was a little boy, back on the farm, my brothers and I would spend entire weekends playing with dominoes. We would line them up all over the farm house. We would start in the living room, criss-cross the room around the furniture, near the TV, up the coffee table and down again, all the way through the hall and into the large kitchen where we had lots of room to make domino pyramids, domino steps, towers, dominoes that would rest next to a ball, dominoes lined up in shapes of triangles, flowers, houses, people to finally go into the dinning room, climb up a chair then unto the big 8 place dinning table where we would line up as many dominoes as we could.
Hours were spent in quasi silence just lining up all these little pieces with the discipline of Buddhist monks. Once in a while, we would look up from our labor to make sure our end of the line was in sync with what the brothers were doing.
Oh there were problems. The slightest vibration could set the whole thing in motion, which would in turn cause a screaming match and sometimes abandon. But for the most part we would just line them up again. No matter how many times they fell.
Once we ran out of dominoes, or whenever my mother got tired of seeing all these little rectangular shapes all over her house, the time would come to reap the fruits of our labour.
Like architects unveiling their greatest works, we would announce to the whole house that it was time to topple the dominoes. The entire family would gather to watch as one of us would flick the first piece and then we would all follow the trail as the pieces toppled one after the other. First in the living-room, all around the furniture, around the TV, through the hall into the large kitchen. The Robichaud's would follow the zipping sound of falling plastic into the dinning room to watch as the final piece came to rest.
It was always anticlimactic, but it was fun nonetheless. All we had left to do was start all over again.

Eddi
The dominoes were fun, Eddi was great, but the Peoples Choice Awards were crap. It was basically just a big hunk of Trash with glitter sprinkled on top of it.
And whats up with Queen Latifah. She is expanding exponentially. But she is all that, and a bag of chips.

Jodi and Café au lait
As we were waiting for Jean to find his way to the coffee shop, I took a few shots and I really like this one of Jodi through the handle of my cup of Café au lait, or as they say in the USA, my Latte.
You know that bugs me. Latte! What the heck is that. Latte. ITS CAFÉ AU LAIT. Yet another reason why I hate $tarbuck$. I blame them for the whole Latte thing.
It's even more infuriating that I had to order a "Latte" at the Presse Café, which if i am not mistaking is a Québecois company. Well, I ordered a Café au Lait, and that's what I got.
Vive la résistance!
OK, so maybe I am over reacting a teeny tiny bit. Check out the definition of Café au lait on Wikipedia. Its all very murky.
