Jack`s the man.

As you all remember, I recently emailed ALL members of parliament regarding the same-sex marriage bill. Today, I received an answer from Jack Layton, Leader of the NDP party of Canada. Here is what he had to say:

Layton, Jack - M.P. Dec 2
Dear Friend;

Thank you for contacting me about the Private Member's legislation, Bill C-268, calling for marriage to be restricted to opposite-sex couples.

I would like to assure you that the federal NDP views this issue as one of equality rights. Our election platform under the heading, Respecting Equality, clearly supports extending civil marriage to same-sex couples. It states:

Recognizing the equality of loving adult partnerships by extending civil marriage equality to same-sex couples, while respecting each religion's right to determine its own definition of marriage. (A Positive Choice)

Once again, thank you for writing. I am hopeful we will continue to agree to defend the interests of all Canadians.

Sincerely,

Jack Layton, MP for Toronto-Danforth
Leader - New Democratic Party of Canada
